Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration is the special expansion celebrating 30 years of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, with a worldwide release beginning on 16 September 2026.

The anniversary set brings together Pokémon TCG history and brand-new cards, including a Classic Collection, 30 different Pikachu rare cards and the debut of the new Futuristic rare rarity featuring Mew and Mewtwo. Pokémon has now revealed considerably more about the expansion and its accompanying products, so here’s what collectors need to know about Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration.

When Does Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration Release?

Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration launches worldwide on 16 September 2026. The simultaneous worldwide release is particularly notable because Pokémon TCG expansions have traditionally had different release schedules between markets. Not every 30th Celebration product arrives on launch day, however. Pokémon has confirmed additional products for 2 October, 30 October and 6 November 2026.

What’s Inside a 30th Celebration Booster Pack?

A standard Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration booster pack contains five foil cards plus one foil Basic Energy card. Even more importantly for collectors, every standard booster is guaranteed to contain one of 30 different Pikachu cards. That makes opening 30th Celebration quite different from opening a normal Pokémon TCG expansion, with the all-foil format and guaranteed Pikachu giving the set a deliberately celebratory feel.

30 Different Pikachu Cards to Collect

Pikachu is understandably one of the stars of Pokémon’s 30th anniversary expansion. There are 30 Pikachu rare cards featuring special Pikachu numbering, with each card featuring a different illustration, artist and attacks. Because one of these Pikachu cards appears in every standard booster pack, collectors opening the set will gradually build their own Pikachu collection — although completing all 30 will naturally require more than simply opening 30 packs because duplicates are possible. Pokémon has already revealed a selection of the artwork, ranging from playful everyday scenes to more elaborate collector-focused cards.

Two particularly striking Pikachu cards revealed for the set are Special Illustration Rare Pikachu ex cards built around the expansion’s day-and-night theme. Both are illustrated by kantaro. One shows Pikachu celebrating during the day surrounded by Pokémon including Alolan Exeggutor, Espeon, Sylveon and Cosmog, while its nighttime counterpart features fireworks and Pokémon including Gengar, Umbreon, Midnight Form Lycanroc and Cosmoem. These interconnected artworks are already among the cards we’ll be watching most closely when the set releases.

What Are Futuristic Rare Pokémon Cards?

Futuristic rare is a brand-new Pokémon TCG rarity making its debut in 30th Celebration. The first revealed Futuristic rare cards feature two of the most recognisable Pokémon in the hobby: Mew and Mewtwo. Both were illustrated by Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN and use a distinctive visual style intended to look towards the future of the Pokémon TCG while the expansion celebrates its past.

Mew is one of the first cards revealed for the new rarity and immediately gives the Futuristic rare category a major collector Pokémon. Its unusual visual treatment makes it noticeably different from traditional Pokémon card artwork and gives the anniversary expansion something genuinely new rather than relying entirely on nostalgia.

Mewtwo Futuristic Rare

Mewtwo also receives a Futuristic rare card illustrated by YOSHIROTTEN. Pokémon describes the card as having a unique texture and style unlike previous Mewtwo cards, making it another obvious card for collectors to watch when 30th Celebration launches.

What Is the 30th Celebration Classic Collection?

While Futuristic rare represents the future, the Classic Collection looks back across Pokémon TCG history. The expansion includes nostalgic cards from previous eras, giving collectors the opportunity to revisit familiar cards within the anniversary release. Importantly, Pokémon has also revealed a dedicated 30th Celebration Classic Collection booster pack. The confirmed Ultra-Premium Collections each contain one of these special packs with three cards from the expansion’s Classic Collection. This is separate from the 29 standard 30th Celebration booster packs included in those products.

Classic Pokémon Cards Returning for the Anniversary

Pokémon’s anniversary material has shown cards representing different periods of Pokémon TCG history. Rather than treating every card briefly visible in promotional material as a guaranteed final checklist entry, we’d recommend waiting for the complete official set list before considering every showcased card confirmed. That’s particularly important with an anniversary set where Pokémon is deliberately referencing three decades of TCG history.

30th Celebration isn’t just a single release day. Pokémon has announced a substantial range of products spread across September, October and November.

30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box

The standard 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box launches on 16 September and contains:

• 9 Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration booster packs
• a full-art Nidorina promo card
• 65 card sleeves
• 16 foil Basic Energy cards
• damage-counter dice
• a coin-flip die
• a plastic coin
• a storage box with six dividers
• a player’s guide

The Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box increases the booster count to 11 and includes two full-art Nidorina promos, one featuring the Pokémon Center logo.

30th Celebration Ultra-Premium Collections

The Day and Night Ultra-Premium Collections are among the biggest confirmed products for the anniversary and launch on 6 November 2026. There are two versions: a day-themed collection featuring Espeon ex and a night-themed collection featuring Umbreon ex. Each UPC contains:

• 1 Espeon ex or Umbreon ex foil promo
• 29 standard 30th Celebration booster packs
• 1 Classic Collection booster containing three Classic Collection cards

We don’t have to pretend we know which cards will become the most valuable before the set is released. But there are already several cards that stand out from a collector’s perspective.

Mew combines an extremely popular Pokémon with the debut of a completely new rarity and artwork from YOSHIROTTEN.

2. Futuristic Rare Mewtwo

Mewtwo has the same debut-rarity appeal and is one of the most recognisable Pokémon represented in the expansion.

The connected day-and-night Pikachu ex artwork makes these two cards particularly interesting as a pair.

For long-term collectors, the Classic Collection could be one of the most interesting elements of the set as more of its contents are confirmed.

Is Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration Worth Buying?

For collectors who enjoy anniversary sets, Pikachu, nostalgic cards or unusual Pokémon TCG products, 30th Celebration has plenty going for it. The combination of an all-foil booster format, guaranteed Pikachu card, Classic Collection and new Futuristic rare cards gives the expansion a clear identity. There is also an unusually broad selection of sealed products, ranging from small two-pack products to the huge Day and Night Ultra-Premium Collections. Whether it’s worth buying for you will ultimately depend on which cards you’re chasing and the price of sealed products once they’re available. We wouldn’t recommend buying purely on the assumption that 30th Celebration products will increase in value. If you’re opening the set, the best reason to buy it is because you actually want to collect the cards inside.
